About this piece:
A reliquary was in some traditions a container to hold sacred relics. In this piece the lidded column presents an inner chamber for as yet unknown purposes.
The dragon thought of here is Quetzal Coatl the feathered serpent. Zig zag pattern resembling his shadow cast on Mexican pyramids at the solstice (OK so I mix some mythologies, You make up a story!)
Anyway I did have fun doing the piece, developing new textures, finishes, and yes remembering archeology books I read years ago and the sense of discovery I felt vicariously (Thanks Mrs. Schmidt, please don’t grade the English in this text).
